Heat pumps in Vancouver homes

Homes in Vancouver

About 2 in 3 Vancouver homes heat with electricity and about 3 in 10 with gas (U.S. Census estimates).

Electrically heated homes are the ones a heat pump helps most, and the ones Clark Public Utilities rebates.

Permits in Vancouver

Replacing a furnace inside Vancouver city limits needs a mechanical permit from the City of Vancouver. In unincorporated areas such as Salmon Creek and Hazel Dell, Clark County issues it.

We pull the permit as part of the job, and the inspection follows.

Utilities & rebates

Vancouver homes get electricity from Clark Public Utilities and natural gas from NW Natural.

If you heat with NW Natural gas, Energy Trust of Oregon also runs gas incentives for Clark County customers, and we’re an Energy Trust Trade Ally. Clark Public Utilities offers heat pump rebates for electrically heated homes, and the work has to be done by a contractor in its network. Comfort 360 is a participating contractor in Clark Public Utilities’ Heat Pump Contractor Network.

Questions

Heat Pumps questions

Do heat pumps work in Vancouver winters?

Yes. Modern heat pumps heat well through a normal Vancouver winter. For the coldest days, when the east wind comes through the Gorge, a dual-fuel setup keeps a gas furnace as backup, or an electric backup heat strip covers the gap. We size it to your house.

Can I get a rebate for a heat pump in Vancouver?

You may qualify. Clark Public Utilities rebates heat pumps in electrically heated homes when a participating contractor does the work, and Comfort 360 is a participating contractor in its Heat Pump Contractor Network. If you heat with NW Natural gas, Energy Trust of Oregon also runs incentives for Clark County customers, and we’re a Trade Ally. We check what applies at your estimate.

My home heats with baseboard or an electric furnace. Is a heat pump worth it?

Often, yes. A heat pump moves heat instead of making it, so it uses much less electricity for the same warmth than baseboard heaters or an electric furnace, and it cools in summer. About 2 in 3 Vancouver homes heat with electricity (U.S. Census estimates). We’ll show you the options at a free estimate.

How much does a repair visit cost?

The diagnostic is $159, and it’s free when you approve the repair the same visit. You get the repair price before any work starts.

Can I book online?

Yes, any time, day or night. Pick a time on our booking page and our office confirms it. If you book after hours, we confirm first thing the next working morning.

Can I finance a new system or a repair?

Yes, with approved credit. Financing is available on repairs and service from $500 and on new systems. See financing.
